“Empowering Parents: Understanding Dyslexia in the French Immersion Context”
In this presentation, Tianna Voort will discuss dyslexia in French Immersion. What are
some of the common myths about dyslexia in French immersion, how to advocate for
your child, and what to look for in good reading instruction. Then, Tara Natter will talk
about the practical implementation of structured literacy and how parents can support
their children.

Tianna Voort: Tianna serves as the Community Outreach Coordinator at Dyslexia Canada, dedicating her efforts to ensuring individuals with dyslexia receive the necessary support and resources. With a commitment to fostering inclusivity, Tianna advocates for evidence-based reading instruction to empower every child, irrespective of their learning differences.

Tara Natter: Tara brings over two decades of experience as a primary school teacher within the Waterloo District School Board, specializing in French language education. As a reading specialist, Tara’s passion for literacy extends to her dedication to supporting students in French Immersion programs. Her journey with French language and culture began during a summer bursary program in Quebec City, further fueled by her experiences studying in France and working as a nanny.
